We help to facilitate conversation between them, and encourage them to talk about any areas that may be contentious. When God doesn’t give us what we want straight away, especially if it’s a good thing that we desire, it could be because He’s trying to develop patience in us. We have to learn to trust and wait on Him. In the case of marriage, it could also be that He’s working on us whilst preparing the right partner to show up at the right time.

I watched a rom-com on Netflix recently. It was about a girl who initially was sceptical about romantic relationships, even though deep down she longed for one herself. The truth was that she didn’t think anyone would ever love her for who she was. In the end however, she realised that what she really needed to make her happy was to love herself.

The importance of timing

Part of knowing God’s will is knowing His timing for events in our lives. There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens (Ecclesiastes 3 v 1). Verse 11 states, ‘He has made everything beautiful in its time.’ God operates outside of time as we know it, and He hardly does things according to our schedule. If we can grasp and accept this ultimate truth, I believe our stress and frustration levels would drop significantly. He knows the best time for things to happen in our lives and if we allow Him, He will make things beautiful.

I’ve had one or two break ups in my time and I can testify that it can be one of the hardest times a person can face. It is especially difficult if it wasn’t a mutual decision, and you didn’t want the relationship to end. But, even when you’re the instigator of the break-up, it can still be a very hard decision to make and you can end up questioning whether you’ve made the right decision.
