I have often looked back at failed relationships and wondered how I could have ever really trusted the people I have dated in the past. If there were obvious red flags and warning signs, I had clearly missed them, because I sat multiple times on the edge of an absolute train wreck of a relationship. Now that I have been married more than 13 years, I have learned to see some important signs around whether people are trustworthy or not. Back then, I wish someone had come along and shared these same signs with me.

My wife says our first date went well, despite the fact that I nervously interviewed her like I was Barbara Walters.

On the other hand, our second date didn’t go so well because – um, how do I say this – after the concert I took her to a nice, little restaurant called – deep breath – okay, here I go – don’t-judge-me! – McDonald’s – yes, McDonald’s (I promise, there is a somewhat reasonable explanation).

In East Asia, there are more singles than ever before. But many say they don’t want to be in a relationship at all. Why are so many people shunning romance?

I was happy to oblige. I’d chatted to this chap on my Facebook page and found him to be friendly, interesting and a sincere Christian (and nice looking for his age, if you’re wondering). I couldn’t understand why he wasn’t having much success – so I clicked through to his profile…

Aaaaahhhh, the coffee date. I love the coffee date, and not just because I love coffee. It’s the best kind of first date because it’s simple, casual, and low pressure. It’s a great environment to get to know someone, but best of all, it’s totally flexible.

It’s wedding season, and boy do I know it!

I’ve just about recovered from attending three weddings in less than three weeks. I don’t mean to complain, especially as I had the pleasure of being Best Man at two of them. The travelling, organising, and expense can certainly take their toll, but it’s always worth it.

Recently, I fell down the stairs at my home and sprained my ankle. Since that fall, I find myself approaching the stairs very differently. Before the accident, I ran up and down that carpeted staircase many times each day without a second thought. Now, I’m very cautious and aware of every step.

‘Why would any woman look at me, HopefulGirl?’ my pal asked, miserably. ‘I’m short, I’m balding, I’m carrying a few extra pounds, and I don’t earn much. I’ll never find love.’
